The Time, The World...and 


In 150 BC : Gaul is taken over by the Romans. Wines, in amphora, are transported ( by boat ) on the river "Aude" which passes through Limoux. The Domain of " La Lagaste", gallo-roman Oppidum, is the property of Guinot' s family.

In 1531 : Reign of François I, the first period of a cultural and artistic blossoming ; it is the "Renaissance period" with the painter Michael Angelo, invention of printing by Gutenberg at the end of the 15 th century, the disappearance of the last Cathars. Eight km away from Limoux, Saint Hilaire 's monks invent the first natural sparkling wine: the Blanquette de Limoux.
         
Don Pérignon, a Benedictine, creates in 1688 Champagne, also natural sparkling wine.

In 1875 : During the 3rd Republic, after Napoleon the Third, it is the era of the " Edwardian Age ": the operettas of Offenbach, the works of Victor Hugo and of Jules Vernes; some technical discoveries ( the Louis Pasteur's vaccine in medicine, the phonograph by Thomas Edison ). Gédéon Guinot, initially a herbalist, a " Liquorist " and a viticulturist, elaborates the Blanquette de Limoux and creates Guinot's firm. He is the first one to use the Method of Clicquot ( "remuage" and discharge to eliminate the deposit from the bottles ).

In 1889 : Centenary of the French Revolution . In America, taking off of the first plane and invention of Coca Cola. Inauguration of the Eiffel Tower at the World Fair in Paris, in which GUINOT 's firm takes part in and wins Gold medal.

In 1909 : The " Wild years ". The first cartoon is created in the United States. First start of the car rally Peking - Paris. Construction of the luxurious ship " the Titanic ". Guinot 's firm exports its wines to Russia for Tzar Nicolas 2nd .

In 1912 : After Marie Curie, Paul Sabatier obtains the Nobel Chemistry Prize in Toulouse. He will be Edouard Rancoule 's teacher. Edouard Rancoule (husband of Suzanne Guinot) was part of the third generation of wine makers at Guinot 's.

In 1913 : The first radio station TSF is put on the market. Birth of the writer Gaston Bonheur, who would appreciate later Guinot 's Blanquette. Guinot 's firm markets the first Crémant de Limoux.

In 1938 : Birth of the French Railways (SNCF). Makers from Toulouse sell airliners to Japan. Guinot 's firm makes first exports Blanquette to the Land of the Rising Sun. More than fifty years later (in October 1994), the Japanese Emperor tastes the Guinot 's imperial Crémant. Decree AOC Blanquette: Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (label guaranteeing the quality of wine).

In 1947 : Christian Dior and Pierre Cardin take up Haute Couture. Vincent Auriol is elected president of the French Republic, he is a regular customer of Blanquette Guinot's

In 1975 : Guinot 's centenary year-celebrated in the company of four Blanquette aficionados: Roger Pierre and Jean-Marc Thibault( two French comedians as well as two centenarians from Limoux.

In 1985 : Mickey Mouse (from Walt Disney) celebrates his fifty fifth birthday. Atlantic Crossing on a windsurf. Release of the film "Trois Hommes et un couffin". In memory of the Tzar, Guinot 's brings out the Imperial Cremant Vintage.

In 1995 : Jeanne Calment, the oldest woman in the world, celebrates her hundred and twentieth - year - old along with Guinot 's .
