October 2008

Dear Friends,

We will finish the grape harvest the September 25, 2008.
The quality of the grapes was very good.. The cold, the frosts of this winter and the dry summer 2008 lowered the production by approximately 30% in our Guinot vineyards. We obtained a very good concentration of flavors in the fruit juice, there fore certainly also in the wines.
As in the past, we fermented at low temperature (13°C) in order to conserve the subtlest flavors, which are also most volatile. The additional vineyard that we bought this year has added also a very good quality of Mauzac grape. Being exposed to the South/Northeast, it will bring a savor complementary to our other fields and soils which are exposed to the South/Southwest.
The maturity of the grapes is very good: the sugar density is 1092 - 1095, which corresponds to 12.5 % alcohol. We split into batches during the pressing the production of each of the 3 vineyeards (Domaine TAICH, Domaine St Jean and Domaine LAGASTE) as well as various type of grapes: CHARDONNAY, CHENIN and MAUZAC.
This provides us with the most possibilities for the assembly before the bottling.
As every year, the bottling will begin as of January 2008. Of course, we preserved wines from the harvest of 2006, in order to balance the tastes of our vintages.

SORRY  : We prepared from the harvest of 2001 a special bottling of Cremant Imperial . This Cremant is made with only "top of the vintages", composed with a significant proportion of hardonnay, and aged in oak. The vineyards used are old vines classified "grand cru". Its aromas are powerful, direct and very subtle. It is a dry Brut, worthy to be in competition with Grand Champagnes any methodes champenoise wine. This special vintage will be produced in limited series in a special bottle.
All this vintage is reserved by Finland Monopole.

Quality and distinction: our Cremant Imperial Guinot has again just been given 2 stars by the Hachette Guide 1999, 2001...2006 "coup de coeur" (these days the best guide of the wines in France) and is also listed in the Parker guide The Wines of France. Dito for 2000,2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005and 2006.
